What are the most important lessons you have learned about being an artist and selling your work?
I guess as an artist keeping a balance between the “money makers” and the fun new things I’m learning is what I am trying to do now. I need both to keep going and to feel inspired. As a seller I have learned that you just CANNOT be shy when it comes to talking about your work or asking questions of other successful sellers to help you along. No one is born with this knowledge. I consider it like taking courses to keep you up to date in your dayjob. It works the same way. You have to stay informed and current.
What advice would you give to other artists?
Geez, I could write a lot here. I am very free with what I’ve learned, but
it really depends on what you are selling. I love to see people do well. I guess my best general advice is to network with other artists, ask questions. Find someone selling a similar product and do what they do. Be persistant. Be positive. Find the time to learn. Use the google search bar. There are many artists out there that have been kind enough to spell things out for you, you only have to find them.
Finally, enjoy what you do. That is MOST important, because you may soon find yourself doing it 75 hours a week.

Hi Bill — another great interview with a fine artist. Liese has shared some valuable tips and insight into the world of selling art online.
Thanks!
