You are invited Thursday, March 4th for an opening and book signing with Judith Fox. We are excited to exhibit two bodies of work by Fox: “I Still Do: Loving and Living with Alzheimer’s”, a powerful, poetic and universal portrayal of aging, loving, humor, mortality and hope, also the subject of a touching photographic memoir published by powerHouse. We also present, “Sea of Dreams”, an abstract depiction of haunting beauty that explores the powerful turbulence beneath the surface calm of the ocean. Seen together, these images offer both direct and metaphoric representation of deep emotion and the resilience of the human spirit. Ms. Fox will be present and signing her new book. Books available for purchase at the gallery.

I Still Do: Loving and Living with Alzheimer’s

In I STILL DO, Fox enters her husband’s world with her camera as a way of celebrating, honoring, loving and remembering Ed as he leaves the conscious world. Fox started this series when Ed was in his middle 70’s — to her, still a vigorous, handsome and sensuous man; also a man who has Alzheimer’s Disease.  In photographing Ed, Fox was challenged by a desire to preserve and protect their privacy while still exposing elements of the disease to public view in order to help destigmatize Alzheimer’s Disease.

Sea of Dreams

The metaphorical images in SEA OF DREAMS explore the tension between the painterly romance of the Ocean’s surface and the turmoil beneath. The dynamic and powerful shifts of water, wind, sand and light are captured from a single distant and elevated vantage point-they go to where the wind pushes and the moon pulls, marine life is transported, the universe is heated, and coastlines are rearranged.  The photographs reveal depths we may find uncomfortable. There are no horizons, no people, and no crashing waves; we’re not quite grounded. Although the ocean’s currents follow specific patterns, each instant is unique; each movement is eternal and momentary.
